π Coping with the Heat
Advice for our Patients During the Current Heatwave π₯΅
Weβre receiving a high number of calls about swollen ankles, feeling faint, tiredness, rashes, and general discomfort in the heat. These symptoms are often a normal response to high temperatures and are usually not a cause for concern β but we understand they can be worrying.
Most cases can be managed at home, and the NHS has excellent up-to-date guidance to help you stay safe and well:

Common symptoms weβre hearing about include:
- Swollen ankles or feet (especially after travel or sitting still for long periods)
- Light-headedness or fatigue
- Rashes or flushed skin
- Heat-related headaches
- Trouble sleeping
These are usually temporary and improve with:

Keeping cool indoors

Drinking plenty of fluids (avoiding alcohol)

Elevating your feet when resting
β
Taking cool showers or using damp cloths

Wearing light, loose clothing
However, you should seek medical advice if you or someone you care for:
- Is struggling to breathe or speak
- Has chest pain
- Becomes unusually confused or drowsy
- Has signs of heatstroke (e.g. no sweating, fast breathing, temperature over 40Β°C)
